Music Technology BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 at Gloucestershire College

Course description

This course focuses on the rapid development of the music industry, concentrating on technical aspects.

This course concentrates on music production and recording skills.
You will learn audio editing using industry standard Logic Pro Studio and ProTools software.
Through a range of activities you will build up essential elements of the modern producer’s toolkit as well as studying a wider range of topics including sound design for films, live sound, modern studio recording techniques, acoustical theory, contextual studies and the music business.
Activities on this course are diverse and range from written assignments to recording, producing, marketing and branding your own final CD product.

Course content

Your studies will include

  • Recording studio production techniques 
  • Sound recording 
  • Editing 
  • Production
You will learn how to use a wide range of professional software and kit, organise, promote, perform at and film your own gigs, including acoustic.
You will also have the opportunity to perform at the UK Skills Battle of the Bands competition, and develop wider skills (research, presentation etc) that will prepare you for work within the music industry, university and other forms of employment.

Entry requirements

You will need to have 4-5 GCSE's at A* to C Grade including English and Maths and Music

Future opportunities

Upon completion, you may be able to move on to a higher education course, specialising in music technology.

Alternatively you may want to seek employment within the industry.
